A tri-rail train in Pompano Beach, Florida was back running after it derailed on Thursday, January 28, 2016. The train derailed around 5 a.m after it hit debris on the tracks. Officials stated that one of the train’s engines caught on fire, but they were able to quickly put it out.
Thousands of gallons of diesel fuel were spilled onto the track after it derailed. The Fort Lauderdale hazmat team cleaned up the fuel. The 7’s Skyforce HD were able to see the aftermath of the derailment. Witnesses stated that they pulled up and saw police officers everywhere.
Investigators were still on the scene Thursday evening. The Department of Environmental Protection was also on the scene because over 1,900 gallons of diesel fuel was spilled. Forty passengers were on the train during the accident. One person suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital.
Passengers were taken to the Deerfield Beach Station. Many people were affected by the delays. One person stated that he relies on the train to get to work every day. He was late for work. Another person stated that he was two hours late for work because of the delay. One traveler stated that he prepares for delays every morning, so the wait was not too bad.
One person was going to the airport when the derailment happened. He stated that his flight for Santo Domingo was leaving at 4:25 p.m. He did not think that he would be able to make his flight. Patients were also affected by the delays on Friday. One frustrated passenger stated he was not happy about the situation. He also stated that he hopes the situation is resolved soon.
One of the many passengers affected by the delay was Diana Walsh. However, she is trying to make the best of the situation. There is a shuttle service taking passengers from Pompano Beach to the other train stations. The delays will continue until investigators continue investigating the accident. They are hoping that normal service will resume on Saturday, January 30, 2016.
