The mayor of Miami has called for an end to the Ultra Music Festival. The reason that the mayor wants this music festival to end is because a security guard was trampled on Friday, March 28, 2014. Erica Mack is the 28-year old security guard who was trampled at the Ultra Music Festival event. She was pushed down before she was trampled and suffered a serious personal injury in Miami. Mack was taken to the hospital and remains in critical condition.
Tomas Relgado, who is the mayor of Miami, has stated that they are bringing a resolution. If the resolution is approved by the City Commission, then the permits for next year will be denied by the city. The mayor stated that quality of life is more important than money.
Dan Kerr, who is a Miami police officer, was also pushed down at the Ultra Music Festival. He was pushed down by people who were trying to get into the festival without a ticket. Relgado stated that incidents like these are completely avoidable.
Relgado also stated the people who promote the event need to have all of the necessary measures in place so that the perimeters can be secured. The Ultra Music Festival has been known to get out of control. This year, 153 people had to be treated by the paramedics because of injuries that they sustained while they were at the festival. Additionally, 84 people were arrested at the Ultra Music Festival.
