Man Charged with Careless Driving After Knocking Car Onto Tri-Rail Tracks

A man was tragically killed in a car accident on the MacArthur Causeway in Miami Beach, Florida. His family has decided to come forward to share his story in a news conference that was held on Monday, May 5, 2014.An attorney who represents the widow of the man who was killed, 42 year old Dr. Malcolm Lloyd spoke during the news conference. Dr. Lloyd tragically died in a crash that occurred in late April on the MacArthur Causeway. He was a passenger in a Lamborghini operated by 53 year old Andres Toro. Miami Beach Police reported that Toro was intoxicated while operating his car and crashed it into an SUV, causing serious injury to the driver, Raul Alfonso. As a result of the accident, Malcolm Lloyd was killed. Lloyd’s widow was unable to speak as a result of her devastating loss but filed a wrongful death suit against Toro.Lloyd’s sisters talked with the media through Skype from their homes in Massachusetts and Maine. April Harb, one of the sisters, stated that the news has been unbelievably hard for their family and many others. She went on to say that what has been discussed about her brother is just regarding his business and being an entrepreneur as well as the “Dr. Vodka” tagline but that these things are a mere fraction of who Malcolm really was.Furthermore, Lloyd’s family went on to say that he was not only a doctor, entrepreneur and founder of the company Double Cross Vodka but a wonderful and loving father as well. Malcolm Lloyd sadly leaves behind his wife and two sons, Nicholas, five, and Maxwell, who only just turned one year old on the day of Dr. Lloyd’s funeral.Lloyd’s other sister, Sheila, said that she was beyond devastated by the tragedy. She further stated that there were many people who depended on Malcolm and that their father is at a loss as to how he will move forward after his son’s death.

The complaint filed by Lloyd’s widow alleges that Andres Toro’s blood alcohol concentration was .173, which is twice the legal limit for driving under the influence in Florida. In addition, the complaint cites gross negligence, reckless disregard for human life and intentional misconduct. Ervin Gonzalez, the attorney for Mrs. Lloyd, stated that the lawsuit is not about money but about making sure that tragedies such as this never occur again.

The Lloyds’ injury attorney stated that Lloyd and Toro were on their way to the Versace mansion in Miami Beach for business. Toro has been charged with DUI manslaughter, DUI with bodily harm and vehicular homicide. He is currently being held on a $250,000 bond.
